Patient's Rights and Responsibilities

The staff and physicians of Evanston Regional Hospital are committed to providing quality health care at a reasonable cost, and maintain the dignity and integrity of our patients, which includes neonates, children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. the Patient's Bill of Rights has been adopted to promote effective, quality care with satisfaction for the patient, the family, the physician and hospital.

As a patient at Evanston Regional Hospital, you have the right:

  • To impartial access to treatment or accommodations without regard to race, creed, sex, nation of origin, physical disability, religion, or ability to pay.
  • To as much information from your attending physician as you feel is needed before consenting to any procedure or treatment, and to have significant alternatives explained by him or her. This is the responsibility of your attending physician.
  • To refuse teatment to the extent permitted by law, and to be informed by your attending physician as to the medical consequences of your decision..
  • To privacy and security concerning your medical/health care program at Evanston Regional Hospital.
  • To receive care in a confidential and respectful manner.
  • To examine and receive an explanation of your hospital bill regardless of the source of payment to the extent permitted by law.
  • To review and obtain a copy of your medical record subject to the hospital's policies and procedures.
  • To be furnished, upon request, the names of those individuals involved in your treatment and/or care.
  • To be advised as to the reason(s) for any delay in your treatments(s).
  • To refuse to participate in research affecting your care.
  • To have a method in which to voice complaints regarding your care, and have those complaints addressed, and when possible, resolved.
  • To have the right to effective communication for each patient served, including hearing and speech impaired.
  • To contact Protective Services if there is a complaint of abuse or neglect.
  • To have access to pastoral counseling while hospitalized.
  • To have assistance with ethical issues and advance medical directives.
  • To seek information about the rules and regulations that apply to your responsibility as a patient.
